Details:

Unless you explicitly change the file type in the save panel, the resulting
gorm file is corrupted/invalid.

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #25738 (project gnustep):

Actually, more information from Riccardo... there is no gorm file that saved,
Gorm prevents it from saving at all. I believe this issue has to do with the
fact that GModels are read-only in Gorm and can't be written.

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #25738 (project gnustep):

There are no current applications which use GMODELs anymore. I'm not certain
if there is still a practical use for this functionality.

Closing this as no one uses GModels anymore. This capability will be removed
from Gorm in a future release.
